Dreamcatcher at Black Mountain College {Re}Happening

The first Rhizomatic Collective Unconscious Dreamcatcher was commissioned by the Black Mountain College Museum in Asheville NC as part of their annual {Re}Happening event held April 20^th on the old Black Mountain College campus at Lake Eden. It was installed on a small island in the middle of the lake.

For the project debut I performed as a solo artist. During the day I encouraged audience members to interact with the Dreamcatcher by tying fabric streams and symbolic objects into the sculpture – then at night I lit up the whole structure and performed a slow Motion Sculpture Movement Installation as a living extension of the Dreamcatcher form.

Dreamcatcher at Two Diamond Art Farm

– Saco ME USA

With the sculptures of Patrick Pierce.

The Rhizomatic Collective Unconscious Dreamcatcher was the featured performance at Two Diamond Art Farm’s “Sunset Stroll” on Saturday August 17^th hosted by Patrick and Kathleen Pierce.

I worked with dancers from Saco’s Collective Motion studios in a two-hour “Crash Course” workshop that afternoon to prepare for the three-hour durational performance – where we gradually extended the tendrils of the Dreamcatcher throughout the grounds of the art farm, connecting Patrick’s sculptures into its’ web while Patrick and an actor in the audience recited poetry and Tom Law provided a wash of atmospheric electronic sound.

Dreamcatcher with the Sacred Dance Guild

With the rock sculptures of John Ceprano.

From The Soul: Dreamcatcher was the title of the August 23^rd-25^th weekend intensive workshop with members of the Ottawa branch of the international Sacred Dance Guild. This culminated in two performance sharings of The Rhizomatic Collective Unconscious Dreamcatcher – one on Sunday morning at Bells Corners United Methodist church (where the workshops were held) and one on Sunday evening at Remic Rapids on the Ottawa River with the rock sculptures of John Ceprano.

During the workshop sessions we explored many aspects of the Dreamcatcher project using movement and vocal practices as well as discussion time. The performances were approached as meditations. At Bells Corners it was taking place as the congregation entered the sanctuary before the service began – Afterwards they were invited to come and tie symbolic objects into the Dreamcatcher as a form of prayer. At Remic Rapids we hung the Dreamcatcher into a tree by the water and during the two-hour performance meditation we extended the sculpture towards John Ceprano’s rock sculptures in the river – ending just as the sun set below the horizon.
